Millie Rose Sirum has been playing hockey since she was nine years old. Her brother was playing and she thought she would give it a go. And thus started a successful hockey career.

Now 20 years old, Millie is in her first year of playing for the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts, in the United States. She also plays for the Senior Women’s Norwegian National Team.

“Growing up I started playing with the boys,” she says. “I would train around 20 hours a week.”

During the pandemic, Millie has fortunately been able to continue with her training. Her school tests the players three times a week, and they have had no positive cases. However, playing against other teams has been harder. “It has been challenging to have games every weekend and never knowing if we’re actually playing since some of them have gotten postponed or cancelled due to other teams’ positive cases,” she says.

Millie’s diet is all about recovery: “My overall diet is simply making sure I get enough good food in after and before practices so that I recover well,” she says.

“I start off my mornings with either some oatmeal or bread,” she continues. “For lunch, I either have a salad or some pasta with chicken or salmon and for dinner I have something similar and eat rice or pasta with some sort of protein and veggies.”
