The open road can be in equal parts stimulating and arduous: a pathway to freedom and pastures new. But remembering to keep your calorie consumption up is as important as reaching the final destination. Here are five foods packed with nutrients and vitality, to keep you invigorated for any forthcoming four-wheeled adventures.

1. Chia Fresca:

Chia seeds have the ability to absorb nine to 12 times their weight in water due to their hydrophilic properties, so Chia Fresca is a high-energy, wallet-friendly, natural alternative to a Starbucks.

2. Beef jerky:

A packet of jerky is as close to an easily consumable protein-punch as you’ll find. It doesn’t boost insulin levels either, so you can intentionally delay that sluggish motorway feeling.

3. Hard-boiled eggs:

Hard-boiled eggs are the ultimate example of minimal input, but maximum gain. They’re easy to carry, eat, and season according to your taste.

4. Sweet Potatoes:

Bursting with flavour and packed with energy, the fibre and carb content in sweet potatoes means your body digests them slowly, making for an ideal travel snack. You can roast them in the oven and slice them up, or have them in the form of crisps for easy snacking.

5. Goji Berries:

The anti-aging and antioxidant properties in these small, reddish berries mean they quickly replenish your depleted energy throughout strenuous drives.
